My inspiration…
I knew I wanted to become a physician since childhood and it was my grandfather who inspired me to become an ophthalmologist. He always had a deep respect for eye surgeons because of their ability to restore a person’s sight. Luckily, after my first week of residency, I was in love with ophthalmology too.
My specialty…
During my residency, we had the privilege of observing in all the different departments of ophthalmology. The first time I entered the Retina Clinic and assisted in surgery alongside Dr. Armen Vardanyan, an AECP Fellow and Chief of the Retina Clinic, it was clear to me that I had made my choice. Retina was it.
My opportunity…
It is an honor for me to be selected as the next Fellow to study in my retina specialty. I plan to make the most of this opportunity by observing the approaches of physicians in the U.S. who are some of the best in the world and returning to my country with a wealth of knowledge and experience that will help my patients.
My goals…
My goal after participating in this program is to be as specialized in my field as Dr. Vardanyan, who has been my mentor and who I respect very much. I hope to learn all the modern strategies in retina through my fellowship and return to Armenia with the skills to give my patients the highest quality of treatment possible.
My hopes and dreams…
Eye care has really developed in Armenia thanks in large part to the AECP. More and more, ophthalmologists in Armenia follow modern approaches to care and treatment. My hope is that, one day, all residents in Armenia have medical insurance. Financial difficulties should be not be the reason a person goes blind.
