My inspiration…
It has always meant a lot to me to be of service to others. What got me interested in ophthalmology is the fact that it treats patients of all ages, from premature infants to the most senior members of society. That contact with all members of the population and ability to treat eye disease regardless of age really touched me and inspired me to get into this field.
My specialty…
I have always wanted to work with children and help them so when I was first introduced to pediatric ophthalmology, I knew this was the specialty I wanted to be involved in. Children have very unique needs when it comes to eye care and eye surgery so it is a privilege to be the one who is able to help.
My opportunity…
The opportunity to improve my practical skills and gain more experience by participating in the Next Generation Fellowship Program is a dream come true. I’m honored to have the chance to work with experienced ophthalmologists in the U.S. and learn from them.
My goals…
My goal is to learn about the new methods used in pediatric ophthalmology. Specifically I would like to know more about atypical Strabismus treatment and surgery, congenital cataracts, ways to prevent amblyopia and how to make accurate calculations of IOL. I will use this new knowledge and experience and apply it when I return to Armenia, sharing my learned practices for the benefit of my nation.
My hopes and dreams…
My wish is to develop screening programs for all school-age children in Armenia so that eye conditions can be prevented when possible. Preventive care is very important to me and I hope Armenia evolves into a country where this is practiced. I know through my participation in this program I can realize this lifelong dream.
