We are gearing up for our Medical Mission to Armenia and have recruited pediatric staff from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) to join us on the journey! The Mission trip, which takes place July 15-27, 2019, will focus heavily on training local physicians and medical staff in Armenia.
A longtime partner of the AECP, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has been instrumental in the success of our organization’s pediatric program in Armenia, dedicated to advancing eye care for infants and children in Armenia and eliminating preventable blindness caused by retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and other childhood eye diseases.
Thanks to this continued partnership, a cutting-edge Neonatal Simulation Center was opened in Armenia just last year, in 2018, and is located inside our Center of Excellence for the Prevention of Childhood Blindness in Yerevan.
With innovative new equipment, including neonatal simulators, the Simulation Center is used to train neonatologists, nurses, gynecologists, maternity hospital midwives and others in advanced pediatric care for premature infants in Armenia. More than 70 specialists have been trained at the Center so far with more training scheduled by AECP and CHLA physicians during our upcoming Medical Mission trip in July.
During our Mission trip, we will also be holding our 17th medical conference in Armenia alongside Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the Ministry of Health in Armenia. The AECP-CHLA 17th International Medical Conference on Ophthalmology, Neonatology and Endocrinology will be held at the Armenia Marriott Hotel in Yerevan July 22-23, 2019.
We are thrilled Children’s Hospital Los Angeles continues to work with our organization in Armenia to offer revolutionary new programs to its residents and advance care for Armenia’s smallest and most vulnerable members of society: its children.
