The Armenian EyeCare Project (AECP) was honored to be invited to participate in a policy dialogue on universal health coverage that took place on April 1, 2024 in Armenia. The event was jointly organized by Armenia’s Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) and included the participation of many prominent international groups.
Presenting activities related to strengthening primary healthcare in Armenia, a Ministry of Health representative acknowledged AECP’s involvement in the development of clinical guidelines for the most common causes of mortality and morbidity in Armenia. In the context of the improvement of quality of care, event organizers highlighted AECP’s input in the development of training materials for this purpose.
“It was a great honor to participate in this discussion and to contribute in the acceleration progress toward universal health coverage in Armenia,” AECP Deputy Director Varvara Kalashyan said. “This meeting was a step forward in reaching a common understanding of current initiatives within health reforms in Armenia.”
Other participants of the important meeting included international organizations that work in the field in Armenia including the Ministry of Health, WHO and other United Nations Agencies like UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, UNAIDS, WFP and IOM; international financial institutions including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; and international partners including the European Union (EU), USAID, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Embassy of the Netherlands in Armenia, Embassy of Lithuania in Armenia and other key partners.)
It was an honor for AECP to be included in this crucial discussion regarding the future of universal health coverage in Armenia.
