Valya’s Story
Stepanavan Woman Receives Surgery on Mobile Eye Hospital
Living in Stepanavan and working in the department of health and sanitation, Valya noticed one day that her eyes were beginning to deteriorate and it was starting to affect her ability to work.
She was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes — unable to see at all through her right eye and only partially being able to see with her left.
Earning only $85 a month, Valya didn’t have the means to travel to Armenia’s capital for care.
Hopeless and thinking she would no longer be able to provide for her family, including her grandchildren, Valya grew depressed.
Thankfully, the Armenian EyeCare Project was able to help. With our Mobile Eye Hospital making its tour through Armenia and, finally, to Valya’s town, Valya was able to get the cataract surgery she needed.
“I see perfectly now…” Valya said. “The light restored faith and hope in me.”
With her sight fully restored, Valya has since returned to work and is happy she can contribute to society again.
“Once again, I can live, be productive and be in my own element,” she said.
Valya also expressed extreme gratitude toward the Armenian EyeCare Project and its supporters.
“I’m humbled by the generosity of the supporters…” she said. “Thank you so much for your kindness.”
