Victoria’s Story
Laser Eye Surgery Saves Child’s Sight
Victoria Asoyans served as a token of hope and victory after her parents spent 10 years trying to conceive a child. Her father Robert tells us, “We named our daughter Victoria for her strong will in overcoming all of her health problems with victory.”
Victoria was diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), which is seen in premature infants. ROP is a debilitating eye disease, which causes scaring and detachment of the retina. If left untreated, ROP can lead to rapid blindness.
Victoria’s parents, Robert and Emma, could not afford the treatment to save their daughter’s vision, but fortunately, Victoria was able to receive help from the Armenian EyeCare Project and its ROP program.
After discovering Victoria’s ROP, her doctors performed a laser procedure, which saved her from retinal detachment and lifelong blindness.
