Product Description

Your gift will contribute toward the advancement of the program and for the diagnosis and treatment of these premature infants. The EyeCare Project is implementing a new and exciting program to prevent and treat vision loss in babies born prematurely.  In 2007, following her return from a pediatric fellowship in the United States where she learned methods to prevent blindness in  children born prematurely, Ruzanna Harautanyan has initiated a task force to treat with a laser the retinas of newborns. This technique has been shown to cauterize the abnormal blood vessels that hemorrhage before their first birthday and subsequently cause loss of vision, permanently.  This treatment has prevented vision loss in the dozen or so patients she has already treated and is expected to save the sight of hundreds more.
